Hi Darkslayerzz and welcome to Magelo!
Magelo Sync does not read or collect game account username, password or any other account identifying information. Magelo is a highly respected part of the gaming community and we will never be involved in the creation of anything that will compromise the safety of your accounts.
Only the character information is updated when the Sync Now! button is pressed. Magelo Sync will not detect or request any account information. As you can see, the Magelo community has a large number of World of Warcraft players like yourself, and our accounts have not been compromised by Magelo Sync.
As a responsible gamer, however, please remember to take all necessary precautions needed to keep your account safe. Do not share your account information, keep your anti virus software updated, and beware of any fake Blizzard emails with phishing site links. The authenticator is an optional tool that will add another level of security to your account, and you may find it in the Blizzard Store depending on your region.
If you like the features offered by Magelo, please do not hesitate to tell your friends about us!

I find it bogus that magelo requires to be run WHILE you log in. Magelo should be able to sync with the WoW armory to get character details.
Ironically enough, my account was hacked last night (the night i downloaded and ran magelo). I refuse to trust this site now. The fact that this thread only has 1 response, and that its from a community manager, leaves me to feel its being locked for further input.. all the more reason to distrust.

Hello Brax,
First of all when a thread is locked, you will see a "lock" icon instead of the standard "new message/no new message" icons. So this topic is not locked... If there is only one reply is maybe because this reply was good and the user who asked the question is satisfied whit the answer, no?
I am sorry if your account was hacked but I can assure you it is not caused by Magelo Sync.
But your message arrived at the good time... It's been a moment now that we are working on a new method to sync your characters with the Armory. This method was initially designed for Mac users to allow them to create their Magelo Profile and Signature too, but it is also a good alternative for people like you, who don't want running a program during their play.
Few minor differences will occurs with the Magelo Sync method, as we cannot have all the data we want on the Armory (guild rank and inventory for example) but it will allow you to create automatically all Magelo Profiles and Signatures you want.
Our Import Armory feature is almost ready and it will be available in few days. You will be able to give it a try, if you still want to do it
But I want to reaffirm that Magelo Sync is in NO WAY connected to your account being hacked. In 10 years of existence we had not a single security issue with it. Again I am sorry about your account, I truly understand what you are going through but the culprit is elsewhere.

I've gotten those emails too since I started playing. Some WoW websites make your email visible to others; Magelo doesn't do this so I wouldn't say there's any correlation.
I would suggest blocking the senders and marking those emails as phishing scams.

Because I don't use the email address attached to this account for anything other than logging into WoW (it's a habit of mine to keep games etc away from my personal address) I don't bother checking it all too often. Work is slow today so I checked all my email addresses and found on this one I'd been receiving phishing emails for a few weeks. After reporting/deleting them I noticed an old newsletter from this site (the one and only I'd ever received lol) so I've logged in to have a look about and reaquaint myself. (my then character was only lvl 18, soooo long ago)
Only three sites have this particular email address - Blizzard, Wowhead and Magelo. I don't use magelo sync and havn't logged onto this site for over a year and I'm receiving scam mail as well so I figure the posters above may be in error in blaming this site/application but then again, who knows, Blizzard and Wowhead also keep email information hidden don't they?

Come one guys, little bit of good sense, why on earth would we try to send you some spam or phishing emails ? We have been around since more than 10 years when all started with Everquest. We have never ever been involved with spam/phishing and we have never gave our user details to anyone. So rest assured that your details such as your email is safe with us.

My account was also hacked after getting on to this site from my home pc. I have always used wowhead, thottbott and wowwiki for info. I normally only use magelo from work since its the only wow site that is not blocked.
Friday night I got on Magelo at home for the first time and low and behold I wake up Saturday to a hacked account. Although I am not blaming Magelo. I find it odd considering I'm on other sites daily and this has never happened. I dont use addons. I also do not use the Magelo sync.
If anyone was wondering...I didnt loose anything. The hacker actually maxed out my mining and made me some money...lol.

Hi Elemenope,
I am sorry to hear about your recent "adventure" and I am glad that it did end up nicely. What you said is very interesting, since you didn't use our client, the only potential culprit would be our website.
How do you think other website such as wowwiki or even wowhead sometimes become a security issue ? It's all about Ads. They use a third party to handle their Ads and so serving ads itself is not handled directly by them.
Since they don't have a perfect control of those ads, sometimes, a Trojan might be embedded into it and will affect visitors of such website.
At Magelo, we have a strict no ads policy, there is no ads, no ads server, no flash content coming from someone else. The only flash we have is on our homepage and fully authored by us and it's coming from our servers.
So, the next possibility you could argue is that even if it's very less likely, someone was able to hack into our server and put a Trojan into our flash movies. Well I just made a SHA1 checksum on all our flash movies just to be sure they have not been tampered with and they all came back genuine (Same checksums as the ones we have in our office).
In the end, I am pretty confident that the culprit is elsewhere. If you visit websites with Ads such as wowhead, wowwiki and thotbott, make sure you have an anti virus which is able to scan the pages you are visiting and can protect you from malicious flash movies.
All those 3 websites have unfortunately some track records about being the source of Trojan which lead to having your account being hacked ( http://www.wow.com/2008/03/10/wowhead-and-other-sites-are-having-trouble-with-ad-banner-keylog/ )
On a more general note, I would like to point out that given how those Trojan works, there is almost always an interval between when your account info is leaked and when someone actually use it which makes finding the source even harder because the interval could be several days or several hours.

I use magelo during the last year and at the moment no keylogger and virus. I only have the typical issue with the stats (but magelo are working day by day on it )
Another think is that I always try to protect mi PC. For example I use "Magelo SYNC" just after the log ing and with the character loaded. I never start it before logg in (I did'n trust no-one, neither my shadow jajajjaja)

Been using Magelo since way back in my EQ days and have never had a single issue with getting hacked or spam mail because of it. Magelo does great work and when they say they are safe, it isn't just bluster.

Hello...new to the site. I would really like to use Magelo Sync (it looks cool) but am worried about getting banned for violating the ToU for WoW...was wondering how long some of you have been using it with WoW or if they have allowed Magelo Sync to work with WoW without violating the ToU. I am not worried about getting hacked as I see some people have posted above having issues...I have a Blizzard Authenticator. I just don't want my account banned!
Thanks.

Been using it since Oct 2008. No problems with my accounts, and I've got it running most of the time.
