Oops! Sorry Zaidoc
As for keeping ahead of the curve by using the test server, someone mentioned earlier in the thread that the test server uses a different code base. I believe this would make it impossible to "port" it over easily for Magelo.
There's been another eta update which sounds encouraging. Let's wait til at least the end of the week before we start criticising the Magelo team. Working in the business, I can say things often take longer than we (and they) would like.
Cheers

That may be true for data. It would not, however, have prevented work being done up front to prepare for the new layout of the AAXP tree. Which may have been done anyway.

And how do you know they didn't do that and they are just having a hard time figuring out the data stream and making it work again?

Thats what has most people frustrated! We do not know anything except that there are "new big improvements" also going into the update, its the very lack of someone commenting that it will take a couple more days to finish that promotes negativity. Most of this could have been avoided if they cared by someone posting on Wednesday to expect the patch later in the week due to difficulties and then on Friday (tomorrow) to expect it early next week.

They posted and said to expect a patch this week. It's still this week.
Do you want them to post again to confirm that there's a patch expected this week?

I agree with Creac. The Magelo team is doing the best they can to get this out to us as fast as possible while maintaining the quality of their data, and I applaud their thoroughness.
I'm a systems consultant in the IT field. There's very little that I hate worse than a customer breathing down my neck asking for status updates every fifteen minutes after I've told them it's going to take five days to fix. My usual resolution is to stop working on the problem to give them the status update... a very detailed, very technical status update, pulling absolutely no punches. I then follow this with a statement that having to give them this status update has added an hour to the task, and commensurately another hour to the billable. They usually get the hint pretty quickly and leave me alone for the remainder of the fix.
This thread is proving out another observation... fix the issue about which people complain ("When can we expect the patch?" "This week.") and it doesn't silence them; they just find something else about which to whine... usually regarding something they haven't the knowledge to decipher themselves. ("Why didn't you use the test server? I would've used the test server.")

I would like to say THANK YOU! to the Magelo team. We're all here for the same reason, we either don't have the know-how or the time to create a system that would allow us to update our character information.
And I would like to appologize for everyone's impatience around here. Updates, no matter the type, take time. The more of the EverQuest backbone that is changed, the more work they have to do. It is never as simple as "well, just copy from the test server" if it was then EQ Updates that are supposed to last four hours would be four hours, not the seven to nine that they tend to be.
For anyone that hasn't noticed Magelo doesn't even support the test server. Why? Because a lot of the things that are implemented on the test server are never seen on the live servers. So, really, updating based off of the test server would only make things last twice as long because they would have to figure out what updates were transfered over, which weren't and what new changes had to be made to make it all work, after they updated it the first time....
I know that I myself keep looking everyday or two for an update, but please, let them update and the more time they have to work on the problem, the faster it will happen. So, again, thank you Magelo Team for your patience with the public and for your hard work that you put into making the system so steady that the ONLY times you are down is when EverQuest updates.

So long as it is up long enough before the patch to allow me to click update 1 time, I don't care
