Why should I trust a program I download to interact with my WoW session and send that information through the internet? One of the most important things I want to keep safe is my WoW password and security information, and I do not feel comfortable with the nature of your program.

Magelo isn't a keylogger, but if you are afraid of your PW being stolen via Magelo Sync you can log into WoW before you run Magelo Sync so that you are past the PW entry screen.

Also, Magelo has been around since EQ. They are a respected part of the EQ community, they have no reason to do such a thing. During EQ I used the auto-updater, will plan to do the same for WoW.
Happy to see them finally a part of the WoW community

Given the ferocious advertising and very professional and beautiful website and network. Not to mention their history as a third party program in the MMORPG genre...
I find this highly unlikely and a bit ignorant and unthought out. Someone watches too much 60 minutes.

I actually think that's a very valid concern. I know a few people in my guild that have lost their account to "hackers" and having the only means of updating your profile being a program that sends data out from your computer seems very sketchy to me. I remember using Magelo back before I quit EQ back in 2002, but back then you could just input the armor you were wearing and all your stats without running a separate program. I don't think you can be careful enough with your account these days. Has anyone had any account security problems since installing Magelo software?

For what it's worth (I know I'm an advisor) I've been using Magelo's updater for 4 1/2 years and I have never had an issue with account security.
I don't play WoW so I'm not sure how good their security is, but I know that with EverQuest 99% of the time a "hacked" account was really a case of the owner giving their information to someone (so they could get a flag or loot a piece of gear) or trading their account information on a guild website (usually via PM). A couple of years ago a well known guild on my server had their guild forums hacked and everyone who had used the Private Message function to share their account information had their accounts messed up - the guild was disbanded, some people had characters deleted - it was pretty bad.

Nice
To throw in my 2 cents, I found JMagelo as an ad on some other wow site (WoWAce probably), and after I downloaded the Magelo Sync, the first thing I thought was, "This could totally have a keylogger right here, luls". I pronounce the 'luls' part outloud. But then it was like, well gee. This looks like a super-professional program and, quite frankly, I didn't think someone would go to this kind of artistic extent just to put a keylogger in it, so I threw caution to the wind and started using it. No gold lost so far!

I played EQ from 1999 through 2006, with a few encore appearances in 2007, used Magelo for EQ since 2002, and never had any of my EQ accounts compromised.
Granted, I can't speak much for Magelo for WoW, since I just started using it this week, but it's seriously one of the most trusted third party apps out there for EQ (in my experience it was more accurate and useful than the EQplayers website - Sony's equivalent to the WoW armory).

I have no fear that my account will be compromised using this program. Still I always log into my game session before logging onto Magelo. It is just added security for my high level toons and in game peace of mind.

Hi there !
I fully understand there's still some people worried about security, if you have any doubt, you should buy a Blizzard Authenticator, this is an absolute must-have for all cybercafe users

I hope you'll give it a try

I myself have an Auth and it works cool. Magelo is the best char profile service I used - showed it today to my buddy who was really surprised with plethora of options.
Besides, if it was a keylogger people would sue the Magelo's authors of their last shirt
