I wanted to select my image at http://www.starhiker.org/images/frostwyrm_small.jpg for background for my Magelo profile, but I get "The URL of your background is not valid". I tested it myself, and it is working fine. It is 800 by 600, and the file is not over 700 Kb. Can you fix it so I can use my picture?

It looks like the site that image is currently hosted on does not allow linking.
Try uploading it to an image hosting site like http://www.photobucket.com and then linking through that.

No, HotLink protection is currently disabled. But I will try putting it on an image hosting site.

Hi Alfuin,
You right, there seems to have an isue with adding a background image for your profile.
The URL is ok, so the issue should be on our side. We will work on it and I will get back to you ASAP.
Great background BTW, you took it from the login screen of the game! really cool!

Yes, it was taken on my old machine that was so slow showing the overlay that the dragon had time to fly by and land, then take off, before it appeared.  Not possible on my new machine though. You are free to add it to your collection if you want. (That will save me the wait till you fix the bug.)

The WoW channel is in free Beta actually so of course you can customize your signature as you customize your profile.
Go to My characters > Manage character > Customize and click "Edit" on the bottom page of the "Signature" tab.
Here you can pick a background from the library, choose a color theme,...
I will keep you posted as soon as those images will be available

I did as you suggested, then after seeing the result, compared with your default banners, I altered it a little. You can see the template at http://starhiker.org/images/frostbnr.jpg and see the finished banner below. Looks good, doesn't it? Thanks for letting me know of this feature, I had no idea I was permitted to do this. One question though. When your WoW channel goes live, will all who used the Beta loose their perks, and downgrade to merely registered users, not premiums?

On the behalf of all the Magelo team I would like to thank you for your article in your blog. It's always a pleasure to feel that we are part of a community and to meet people like you.
Your signature design is just perfect! You have good skill in design, maybe it is your job in the real life
I just noticed that when I click on the signature from your blog, it not open the profile but the signature in real size.
To answer your previous question, yes you will need to subscribe to the premium offer to keep all the premium features, when we will close the beta. You can find here the detail of the premium features.
You will still be able to sync your character and create profile and signature but you will need to enter manually the information about your character to make it accurate. A default background will be also replaced by your actual custom one. Of course your account will stay active with all the characters you already added in your space.
BTW I found the error for your background image, it is on our side. We have an issue with some website where we cannot validate the image size before linked it in Magelo. It is the case on http://www.photobucket.com. If you want using your image today, I recommend you to try to host it in another place. We will add it on the website this week

I have fixed the link in my blog, I only tested to see if I could do the shrunken to fullsize banner effect, but apparently I didn't remember to put it back to normal.
Too bad that us faithful beta testers shall not have the benefit of i.e. a year premium membership, as reward for helping you out with bug testing and reporting...
About the background, which sites does the system accept to download images from? There are thousands of them out there, you know...
