I have noticed that my magelo Gearscore is alot lower than my Gearscore in-game(trough gearscore addon). I wanted to put it on my sig, but i'd look totally gimp with a GS of 4.3k on my sig, while i have a 5.4k+ GS in-game.
Any way you guys could equalize it to reflect better what we get in game?

Hello TrollSlayer and Feracitus,

I wanted to inform you that we have been experimenting with some new formulas that try and determine if an item is useful to your archetype. Unfortunately it appears to need some more tweaking.

Let me explain what is going on:

For example the staff Feracitus has equipped has an on use effect that summons a creature to fight with you. This effect mistakenly marked the item as not useful to your archetype which is clearly wrong. We are attempting to do this programmatically using wow's own spell mechanics so that we can recommend items based on your archetype whilst using our new Gear Planner.

Just to note the gear score will be similar to the one you are accustomed to seeing in game with the main difference being that if you are using items that are not good for your archetype or have stats that do not benefit your character then you will not receive the full gear score.

In the Magelo Gear Planner you will also notice that there are 2 kinds of gear scores depending on the PvP toggle. So your gear score will be adjusted down if you are in PvE planning mode are and wearing PvP gear.

We will have this discrepancy fixed soon and thank you for spotting this for us!

Is it not possible to use the same criteria (or even the same add-on) as the Gear Score add-on used in the game itself? That is the number everyone knows of. When they see yours in the signature and it is lower, they will assume is means the same as the in-game add-on. The current value on my signature is better than last time I posted, but still about 200 points lower than the in-game score.

i actually tend to agree with trollslayer, the Add-on Gearscore is so widespread that it became the standard, and our characters are often judged based off that. So using the same methodology would be interesting. I know the way you want to handle things is probably better (taking gems/enchants into account etc), but in the end of the day the thing is: If i get a lower magelo gearscore than the one the addon gives me in game, i'll end up not using magelo's at all, wich is a pity =)

That's not actually hard to do, but are you sure you really want to dump a more intelligent system in favor of the gearscore used in the addon?

Hi Feracitus and Trollslayer,

Just wanted to let you know that I have changed our gear score formula to use the same formula as the Wow Gear Score addon with one exception though.

If you are properly enchanted, gemmed and also have items that are useful to your archetype your gear score will be identical to the one in game. But if not then we will subtract an amount based on our formulas. It will not be an extreme amount but instead reflect the true gear score potential that the enchants/gems add to your gear. Also items with stats that are not appropriate to your archetype will decrease the item level of the item.

The goal of the gear planner is to help you choose the right items, gems and enchants and the gear score must reflect your choices. If you made poor choices it should help you make better ones. If your gear score doesn't change when you gem an empty socket, for example, then you have no indication that you have improved your gear.

If you have any questions or suggestions just let me know.

Expect these changes to be live soon.

Unfortunately yes. In this case I would opt for the more "used and known in-game" system, even if your system is theoretically better or more "intelligent".

I'm glad to hear you made a compromise of sorts. Bringing the systems closer together but keeping yours a bit different, using a few unique formulas I can live with. I'll be curious to see how the two scores compare for me. Thanks. =)

yeah, i also think this is a good solution. I really like that your system takes enchants and gems into account, and indeed i do think it's more intelligent. But like troll said, we're kinda bound by the widespread knowledge of the other system in game, maybe you could try a contact with the addon developer and get him to use your system? > now THAT would be great.

Feracitus, I do see 5521 in the gear planner itself, try syncing your character again to force an update of your signature stats. Trollslayer, check the gear score you got in the gear planner as well, if it's different than 5956, mouse over it and it should tell you how it has been penalized from gems/enchants.

Have a good WE and cya Monday for another update on the gear planner that should be very welcomed
