I keep getting an application error.. it worked after I updated to java 6 a couple times but then nothing but the error... does this have anything to do with MU or XP?

I got the same problems for a week : uninstalled Java and installed Java6 but MU doesn't work at all, even by the same process but with clearing all old java, MU folders in my comp.

Finally, i decided to re-install JRE 1.5, this one that you can find and download. Once launched, i just click on MU button and it started to update itself to JRE 6 then MU via magelo website - all resources downloaded by itself. MU launched by itself and worked fine, i can even synchronize my EQ accounts

Well, the happy time turned to a bad time after...

I wanted to launch MU once again (by my hotkey on desktop and by MU button in Magelo website) and that didn't want to work anymore. From this point, MU keeps asking for my Username and Password to magelo server with "an error occured when connecting to server".
I changed my password and that didn't fix it.
When i decided to clear java temp folder, MU didn't work anymore, same error than last week.

I uninstalled JRE, cleared all old Java, MU folders and started re-installing java. Same deal, MU workd only ONCE then it keeps asking username/password with "An error occured when connecting to server".

What did i do wrong here? What is that?

I am sure this is a bad idea.

It's just a dev thinking 'ooh that would be a cool toy' and deciding to upgrade. I bet there is no functionality in 1.6 that we cannot easily live without. I would be interested to hear what feature of the new JRE they are absolutely unable to function without.

Having to maintain 2 versions is simple, if you avoid needlessly using features of a Java release that isn't even intended to be used on most peoples operating systems, you dont NEED 2 versions.

It's a poor design choice.

Also, there was no warning in the patcher that this was coming up, and now it just bombs with no meaningful error. This is a poor handling of a poor design choice.

Downloaded Java RE 6 for my win2k from:
https://sdlc4d.sun.com/ECom/EComActionServlet;jsessionid=3C8B6724E1304791CE3E57C67070ECC1#
Installed it.
After updating my Java Cache at first run (this lasted 10 min) i got a connection error.
What now ?

JRE 6 installed, cache cleared, Magelo uninstalled, all tmp files cleared, xp with sp2. Running MU from the site or download and run, neither will work for me, Unable to launch the application is all I get. I am at a loss, am I overlooking something simple or what?

After installing JRE 6 and updating my profiles, I find that older Java Applications that I have to run are not compatible. So looks like I have to go and uninstall 6.

Bye bye Magelo Update.

Voreck, you can safely have multiple JRE version at the same time, it's absolutely not an issue, it's even a common practice.

I've had 4 and 5 installed, so yes I am aware that you can have multiple versions installed. I even tried re-installing 5 after 6 and still had no luck running the app. In order to get it to work, I had to uninstall 6.

Have you tried to start the app using an absolute path to your JRE5 ? It should really work, there is no way the app would use JRE6 then

Thinking long and hard about this:

No I am not installing JRE6 just for the sake of Magelo unless you can explain a cast-iron reason why you need it when nobody else does.

The current Java version out there, in the real world, is 5. Use it. Shame about wasting my money on premium... Whats the first line on the JRE6 download page?

"This release of Java SE is supported only on the generally available release of Windows Vista."

So why on Earth are you making it obligatory to install when 99.99999% of your users run XP?

Look at all the people having trouble, and you are seriously asking people to install multiple JREs? Look at your comment to the guy above.

"Yeah like sorry we borked up ALL your other java applications you are going to have to find out how they are launched, go and setup two runtimes. Point each java application you current run at the old JRE .... Just so we can play with 6."

Its mad, 99% of people have no freakin clue what a JRE even is, yet you expect them to learn all this stuff so you can have.... what exactly? Explain why you need 6. I bet it's not worth it.

"In the General tab, by the Internet temp files area, click "display", not sure this is exactly the word, i got it in french on my computer."

The word is actually "View..." on the tab, in the "Temporary Internet Files" section, next to "Settings..."
