Iv downloaded and created an account, synced my char in game and it says I have. when I look at the profile it does not show any my gear.

Welcome on Magelo Jamesathome! With a free account, many information about your character are synchronized. However you still need to manually provide the equipment of your character and some features on the website are restricted to Premium members. I recommend you to take our 10 days Premium trial now. You will be able to try all the Premium features including the full auto sync.
